Hand picked at peak ripeness, de pulped before washed (fermented) in the traditional Kenyan manner. This is an AA outturn, which means the beans are screened to separate out the largest coffee that measure 17-19 on the screen size classification. It's not always a sign of superior cup quality, but are generally given extra care in the dry milling phase and command a much higher price.

About Farmers CoOPs and Kamoini Factory

Chinga factory was the second mill to be developed under Othaya umbrella in 1960. Chinga Factory sits at 1825 meters above sea level, right along the Ichamama River, which is fed from the Karima forest above. "Factories" are essentially small washing stations aligned with a particular "society" which in Kenya are called "cooperatives". Chinga factory is aligned to one of the older co-ops "The Kenya Farmer Coop Societies Cooperative Society" who have an impressive amount of wet mills.

Kenya is the 16th largest coffee producer in the world by volume, and is recognized today as a prominent specialty coffee origin. Growing regions in the country offer rich, acidic soil, and optimal conditions for specialty coffee production. Kenyan coffee is often associated with bright acidity, a rich, full body, and a distinctive flavor in the cup. Some of the most popular varieties in the country include K7, Blue Mountain, Batian, Ruiru 11, and the SL series. The SL series in particular has been cultivated in Kenya for almost 90 years. Although it covers a number of varieties, two of the most popular are SL-28 and SL-34.
