About Mejorado
Mejorado is one of Ecuador’s most distinctive and intriguing coffee varieties, found almost exclusively within the country’s highland farms. Long referred to as Typica Mejorado due to its elegant structure and cup profile, recent genetic research by World Coffee Research has revealed a different story.
Rather than a Typica derivative, Mejorado is actually a natural cross between a Bourbon variety and an Ethiopian landrace — combining the sweetness and balance of Bourbon with the floral intensity and aromatic lift typically found in Ethiopia’s heirloom coffees.
The result is a variety that delivers remarkable clarity, vibrant acidity, and layered complexity — often drawing comparisons to Gesha, while maintaining a character entirely its own.
